In efforts to spread the hookah phenomenon and to bring exposure to new and exciting experiences to current hookah enthusiasts, Inside Hookah is teaming up with the poetry world! We will be hosting an evening of poetry and smoke a couple times over the next few months, on a trial basis. If we are successful in our endeavor to mesh poets and hookah lovers, the event may become a monthly occurrence. This event has been titled Poetic Smoke, and will serve as an opportunity for newbies to be introduced to the hookah culture when they come out to hear poets, and for hookah lovers to be introduced to poetry when they come out to smoke hookah!

Mike Guinn performed a moving piece of original work at Heat Hookah Lounge on Thursday December 21, 2006. This marked Inside Hookah’s very first, ever, evening of poetry and smoke (Poetic Smoke)!Born and raised in East Texas, and with a background in social work, this Texan has become a foreman against social injustices. As an exalted individual poet - winning and or/placing among the top 10 in innumerable competitions - and through his founding of and continual work with the nationally ranked Ft. Worth Slam Poetry Team, Guinn has become a powerful and well established spoken word artist both in the Dallas/Ft. Worth metropolis and across the country.

The performance lasted about half an hour. He started off the evening with a light and witty love poem entitled “Everyday.” He followed it with a trademark piece he performs every time he performs, which includes soliciting the audience for two words before the performance begins and then presenting a poem using all of the words during the set. He finished up with a slightly less comical but equally witty love poem entitled “Moist,” and a disturbing and truly moving poem entitled “Confessions of a Pedophile.” Guinn’s poetry is entertaining, poignant, and healing. The opportunity to partake in his spoken wisdom was truly unique.

He currently has a book out by the title, “Crying in Colors: Poetic Tear Prints,” and several CD’s. More information about Michael Guinn, and the events in which he participates, can be obtained by visiting www.mikeguinn.com.
